She is the Deputy Executive Director of Puente, a community resource center which serves the south San Mateo coast. Rita joined Puente in 2006, working on early childhood development programs. She has worked in several positions since then, overseeing programs including immigration, physical activity, education, and youth leadership. She is currently Puente’s Deputy Executive Director where she is responsible for integrating all aspects of Puente’s programs and activities. Mental health and law enforcement (Bekah Bock)

On Aug 23, our guest speaker was Bekah Bock, LCSW. For the past 23 years, Bock has worked with persons with chronic and severe behavioral health issues. Since 2014, she has been the clinical partner of the Mobile Outreach Safety Team in Carson City, NV, where she specializes in crisis de-escalation and welfare checks for vulnerable persons. She is a certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) coordinator, and collaborates with the Carson City sheriff’s office to offer an annual CIT academy for first responders. She is also a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team. We asked her to tell us about the officers, how they are trained, how she works with them, and how she sees them and their work.

"Stillness: It's Not What You Think" (MK Nelson)

Hospice chaplain MK Nelson was our guest preacher on Aug 16, 2020. She talked about the breath and deep peace that can come from finding a place of stillness in this swirling world. She also discussed the pandemic and her own experience of "having more time for stillness than I ever dreamed, and how difficult it has become for me to maintain and sustain so much stillness."
