Dear Beloved Community,
What a joy it was this past Sunday to have Jim Garrison, David Hooper, and Stephen Hulse lead us in worship for Holy Humor Sunday. Their offering brought laughter, delight, and a spirit of holy joy into our sanctuary, and it was a beautiful reminder that joy is not separate from our faith, but part of how God meets us and sustains us. In times that can feel overwhelming or uncertain, joy can arrive as a sacred interruption, lifting our spirits, reconnecting us to one another. I hope this week each of you has experienced, or will experience, joy interrupting your life in a way that brings comfort, surprise, and hope.
This upcoming Sunday, we are glad to welcome Rev. Victor H. Floyd (UCC, MCC) of Calvary Presbyterian Church, San Francisco, as our guest preacher. Rev. Floyd will preach a sermon titled “We Are All Here,” based on Acts 16:16–34. Reflecting on this powerful passage, he writes: when the earthquake opens every door and every chain falls loose, Paul and Silas do not run. That inexplicable refusal — we are all here — is what converts a jailer, and what might yet convert us. We look forward to the word he will bring and to sharing worship together.
Peace and blessings!
-Jorge
P. S. April's Giving Sunday collection is for the UCC fund called One Great Hour of Sharing. OGHS supports partners worldwide with ministries in health, education, agricultural development, emergency relief, refugee ministries and both international and domestic disaster response.
On the first Sunday of the month (the "Giving Sunday"), the whole plate goes to the designated nonprofit. Any other time during the month you can contribute by way of a check with the name of the nonprofit in the memo line.
