Dear Beloved Community,
I am sorry not to have been with you this past Sunday, and I am sorry to have missed not only San Mateo County Pride, but the No Kings Protest as well. I know some of you showed up to one or the other of them, and I wish I could have been right next to you as we marched or protested. Thanks for representing the church out on the streets! I am grateful for all of you.
Now, this past weekend, as I witnessed the protests around the county. I have been thinking about how the Creator is always able to do a new thing. Death can become life. What is disregarded and cast out can be welcomed again. Because what I believe is that to seek God is to seek something being made new. We may not be sure what is going on. We may not have as much faith as we would like to. Renewal is a law of nature. This is the law of our Source. Those who are trying to keep things as they were are not following Their divine will. May we see honor in the afflicted wherever we are.
See you Sunday, as we welcome our guest preacher Sr. Patsy, who has been invited by Caje and Janice Remedios. Sr. Patsy is a Sister of Mercy nun, working with the Mercy Housing project at Visitacion Valley in San Francisco. Helping residents of the project with college expenses is the goal of the scholarship established by Janice and Caje (and supported by CHC!).
Peace and blessings!

P. S. June's Giving Sunday offering is for the UCC's Strengthen the Church fund. This offering helps build up the churches in our denomination.
The Church Council recently clarified what monies in the collection plate go to our Giving Sunday recipient each month. On the first Sunday of the month (the "Giving Sunday"), the whole plate goes to the designated nonprofit. Any other time during the month you can contribute by way of a check with the name of the nonprofit in the memo line.

Quote of the week
“We were always uneasy. Now I’ve been free, I know what a dreadful condition slavery is. I have seen hundreds of escaped slaves, but I never saw one who was willing to go back and be a slave. I have no opportunity to see my friends in my native land. We would rather stay in our native land, if we could be as free there as we are here.’ I think slavery is the next thing to hell. If a person would send another into bondage, he would, it appears to me, be bad enough to send him into hell, if he could.” -Harriet Tubman
