News for September 18, 2024

Dear Beloved Community,

I am so grateful for our Taize services every second Friday of the month, which are put together and led by Rev. Polly. I attended the service this past Friday, after not attending for a few months, and I was so moved. I was reminded how impactful the services are to my spirit. Especially during the prayer time, where after each prayer shared aloud, a simple chant response was sung by the group. That particular moment allowed me to feel a deep sense of connection with the people around me and a profound closeness to God. If you haven’t experienced College Heights' second-Friday-of-the-month Taize service, I hope you do one day. It is such a spiritual practice that allows you to experience a sense of peace, community, and connection through your faith. Thanks Rev. Polly for leading us, and others who help set up for the Taize service. Can’t wait for next month's Taize service.

Now for this Sunday I will reflect on Mark 9:30-37. I will talk about how there are two kinds of wisdom, one that comes from God and one that comes from social and cultural norms rooted in domination. I believe that God’s way is not the way of selfish ambition or deceit of others but is the way of peacefulness, generosity, justice, and pays no honor to laws that demean God’s people or creations.

Peace and blessings!

-Jorge
