College Heights Church was started in 1962 to serve the expanding community of San Mateo and the already full downtown Congregational Church of San Mateo UCC. But CHC developed a progressive theology right from the start. Involved in the early days of integration and busing, CHC has always been involved in passive resistance and social justice. The sanctuary we worship in today was originally built as the social hall, and built to have no right angles anywhere, as a physical reminder for us to look at life differently. It makes for a building that has a life of its own. CHC is a small caring community of independent thinkers that support each other on his or her own spiritual journey with a zest for life and a quest for knowledge.
